The Govt. of India has enacted a bill titled Right to Information Act, 2005. The Bill as passed by both houses of Parliament, received the Presidential assent on 15th June, 2005. The Bill was published in the Gazette of India Part-II, Section-1 (No.22 of 2005) The new bill which replaces Freedom of Act, 2002, seeks to confer comprehensive rights on citizen to seek information and broaden transparency, besides covering state authorities and Non Governmental Organizations substantially funded by Govt. of India.
